Our Mission
Our mission is to lead the transformation of GLAMs and heritage organizations by providing innovative solutions that leverage technology. We aim to empower institutions and people by enriching experiences and enhancing accessibility to cultural heritage for generations to come.
Our History
In the midst of one of the most profound pandemics the modern world has ever faced and the dawn of a Black civil rights revolution ignited by the tragic public murder of Mr. George Floyd, a wave of powerful Black Lives Matter artwork emerged on social media. It was also at this time that Aisha Abdul Rahman, the founder of Legacy Builders & Empowerment Inc., also embarked on a transformative heritage trip to Ghana. For a month, she explored various regions within the country and experienced the rich tapestry of Ghanaian culture.
This journey coinciding with the protests and uncertainty, Aisha envisioned a platform to bridge the gap between heritage preservation and modern narratives. The powerful experience of the pandemic, the impact of the civil rights movement, and her travels inspired the launch of Legacy Builders & Empowerment Inc. What began as a modest 24-hour Black Lives Matter Virtual Art Exhibit soon blossomed into a transformative five-day event, coupled with a Fourth of July boycott that drew over 200 registered guests.
The following year, Aisha embarked on another profound journey, this time to Sierra Leone. Through the remarkable science of genetic genealogy, she obtained citizenship, establishing her ancestral connection to the Mende and Temne people. This immersive experience deepened her reconnection to her heritage, igniting a passionate desire to empower others to embark on their own journeys of cultural rediscovery.
The year also marked a pivotal moment as Legacy Builders & Empowerment Inc. embarked on its first Annual Juneteenth Festival, coincidentally aligning with the year Juneteenth achieved federal recognition as a holiday. This juncture in history inspired a shift in focus toward the healing potential of art and self-development while embracing a profound passion for emerging technologies and virtual spaces.
As our organization continued to grow we expanded our horizons. broadening our focus to include support for galleries, libraries, museums, and archives, with the aim of leveraging innovative technologies to enhance accessibility, engagement, and cultural preservation. Our journey continues, guided by the enduring commitment to celebrate, empower, uplift, and heal; while shaping a future where technology and heritage coalesce in harmony.
